Could Thanksgiving Day be used to proclaim the gospel? In this portion of 1 Chronicles 16 David connects praising God and proclaiming God. Today around tables filled with turkey and dressing, you can do the same. Read 1 Chronicles 16:23-27:
23 Sing to the Lord, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
24 Declare his glory among the nations,
his marvelous works among all the peoples!
25 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised,
and he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols,
but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before him;
strength and joy are in his place.
In these verses you are commanded to tell of the Lord’s salvation from day to day. This means looking for ways to tell of God’s work in your life as you gather with the people in your life. So today don’t just give thanks in general, but rather give thanks to the Lord because those around you may not know Him.
The truth is some of the people who will eat cranberry sauce beside you today will give thanks to “worthless idols”. They want to be thankful, but they do not know the God whom all thanks is due. So while they give empty thanks towards the heavens, they need to hear you give thanks to the God who made the heavens!
Therefore use today to declare the glory and goodness of God as you give thanks to Him. Because you never know who will be listening, or how desperately it needs to be heard.
