Should You Set Spiritual Goals for 2017?

Posted on Posted in Personal Growth

Sunday begins a new year, which means new resolutions, new goals, and new promises for 2017. I for one love January 1, because the calendar is clean and the future seems limitless.

If you’re like most, you’ve set health goals, work goals, and maybe even some relationship goals. But what about Spiritual goals? Have you thought at all about how you want to grow spiritually in 2017? If not, I suggest taking some time this week to make some spiritual resolutions for this upcoming year, so that you look more like Jesus this time next year.

For me, I want to grow in my prayer life, so I’m theming 2017 as “Deep Prayer”. And with that theme I’m going into 2017 with goals, plans, and processes to experience a deeper prayer life with the Lord.

What about you? Maybe you want to start reading your Bible more in 2017 (because in 2016, we’ll you didn’t). If this is you then make a plan to read your Bible. I suggest starting small. Don’t make a goal to read the whole Bible this year, but instead make a goal to read a whole book in the Bible this year. Then when you knock that goal out, pick another book and do the same, and so on and so on.

Or maybe you want to start sharing your faith, being more of servant at work, discover your spiritual gift, memorize scripture, start journaling, give more, disciple someone, or be discipled by someone. Whatever it is, identify an area you need to grow in, and then make a plan to allow the Holy Spirit to go to work.

If you need help getting started, try asking these two questions: 1) In what area do I need to grow spiritually this year? 2) What is my plan for growing in that area in 2017?

Once you develop a plan, follow your plan, and by God’s grace experience His life changing power in 2017.
