Why did the Jew seek to kill Jesus, and eventually succeed by demanding the Romans execute Him? If you read the New Testament, the reason is obvious. Jesus was killed because He claimed to be God (a lot). Look at John 10:33.
And since Jesus claimed to be God over and over again, C.S. Lewis famously concluded we are only left with three choices about Jesus. He is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord.
Option one is Jesus was a liar and made the whole thing up, which make His joke pretty cruel if you consider all the people in the world who gave their lives serving and worshiping Him.
Option two is Jesus was a crazy man, which doesn’t make Him evil, but rather someone we should pity and get help, not follow.
Then lastly, option three is Jesus really was who He said He was, the Lord God who came in the flesh to redeem us from the curse. These three really are the only possible choices we have when dealing with the reality that Jesus claimed to be God (over and over again).
Now here is where the rubber meets the road. If you believe option one or two and are right, no big deal. But, if option three is right and Jesus really is God, yet you do not believe and live your life for His glory, then there will be hell to pay.
