12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world and its fullness are mine.
13 Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
and perform your vows to the Most High,
15 and call upon me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.”
It feels good to be needed, however “need is a creature-word and cannot be spoken of the Creator” (A.W. Tozer). If God were hunger, He would not ask you or me because He owns the whole world and cows on a thousand hills.
Since God owns everything, He doesn’t need anything from you or me. But don’t let that disappoint you. Though God doesn’t need us to meet His needs, He does want us to praise His name.
God tells us to call on Him in days of trouble (when we have a need), so He can deliver us. And as God meets our needs we turn around and glorify His name with praise.
So don’t try to help God out today, but instead notice just how much He is helping you. And then give Him thanks.
