A plate of ribs and the gospel

I just saw a Chili’s commercial. It’s 7:41pm. I have not ate dinner yet.

What’s going through my head (or stomach)? Yum, yum, get me some right?

Nope.

The complete opposite. I turned my head. Gag reflex.

The truth is I’m sick. It started last night with Katie, and then she generously shared the goodness with me this morning. After hauling the kids to Grandma’s, I’ve been on the couch ever since.

Have you ever wondered why some people (maybe you) don’t have an appetite for God?

It has to do with sickness, not fault in God.

Sin is a sickness. A disease that disrupts our created order and purpose. Instead of feasting on the goodness of God, we seek to make gods or become gods. We gag reflex towards God.

So as you look around at a world that is gagging at the glory of God, know the problem is not with God, the problem is the human disease known as sin.

But there is a cure.

“… he (Jesus) was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” – Isaiah 53:5

Jesus is the cure to our sin disease. Through repentance and faith we are united with Christ and He takes our sin and gifts us His righteousness. And with that comes a new and right appetite for God.

Tonight I turned my head at a Chili’s commercial, but as soon as this bug leaves, you can bet I’ll be going out for ribs again. Because there ain’t nothing wrong with those ribs. The something wrong is me.
